SimLabDisplay

Dental simulation lab management

Every station.
Every student.
One live board.

One tap assigns the whole class and starts the lab. The board shows who's where and what's signed off in realtime, and proposes each rotation for you to confirm. Every student's phone shows one clear card: what they're doing right now.

The live board. It updates on every device as the room moves.

For the professor

See exactly what every student is doing: their station, their progress, their raised hand, live on one screen.

Spot who's falling behind while there's still lab time to do something about it, not in next week's grading.

End the day with proof: who finished, who didn't, and whether it was one student struggling or a classroom problem.

How a lab day runs

From plan to running room in three steps

01Before lab

Plan the day

List your foundation activities (bench work the whole class can do at once), then add the capacity-limited stations: one scanner, two mills. Each station knows how many can work there at once.

02Lab starts

Start with one tap

One tap assigns the entire class and the lab is running. Students join once with a 6-character class code (K7M2QD) and their seat, and stay enrolled all term.

03During lab

Run it from the board

Sign work off by tapping a student's progress badge. When people finish, SimLabDisplay proposes who moves where. You confirm, and everyone's phone updates.

What's on the board

Built around how a simulation lab runs

A live board of the whole room

Every station, who's at it, and each student's A/B/C progress badges, tappable to sign off and updating in realtime on every device.

Rotation you confirm, not compute

As students finish, SimLabDisplay proposes who should move to which open spot. You stay in charge: review the moves, confirm, done.

Capacity-aware planning

Foundations take unlimited students; stations are capped at their real capacity. The board shows 2/2 and “full” at a glance.

Lecture classes too

Attendance-only classes run the same rotating-code, QR and NFC check-in. One product for the sim lab and the lecture hall.

A help queue that escalates

Raised hands land in a live queue with wait times that turn amber, then red. Staff tap “on my way” to claim, then resolve.

Faculty and TA accounts

Give teaching staff the board view and help queue, and grant per-class sign-off so they can clear students at their stations.

After the lab

End the day knowing who needs you

One tap ends the lab and builds the report: who finished everything, who didn't, station by station, with charts of how the day actually flowed. Export the whole matrix as CSV for your gradebook, or use the ready-made email to the students who still owe work. And because it's computed from the records, the same report is still there next March.

  • Per-student and per-station completion, self-report vs staff sign-off
  • One student struggling vs a classroom problem, visible at a glance
  • CSV export, and a ready-made email list of who didn't finish

One button emails the three who owe work.

One card. Nobody wonders where to be.

The iPhone app

The whole lab, one card at a time

A student never has to ask “where am I supposed to be?” Their phone shows one thing (the station they're at), and when the room rotates, a push notification tells them where to go next. Mark work complete, ask for a limited station, raise a hand: it all happens from the bench.

  • Push notifications the moment you're moved: station and bench, nothing else
  • Raise a hand with one tap and it reaches the faculty covering your seats
  • Past lab days stay readable: what you finished, what you owe

Photos & assessment

The work, photographed and signed

Students photograph their preps (up to five labeled angles per attempt) straight from the bench. Photos land in encrypted private storage, visible to exactly two parties: the student and their instructors. Publish rubrics so expectations are on every phone, and let students request a summative assessment when they're ready to be graded.

  • Five angles per attempt: buccal, occlusal, lingual, mesial, distal
  • A personal photo library with every attempt, all term, in one place
  • Rubrics and summative sign-offs, recorded with who signed

Private storage, links that expire in an hour. No photo has a public address.

Codes die in 10 seconds, so screenshots don't work here.

Attendance

Presence you can't fake cheaply

Take attendance with a rotating 6-digit code, a QR code, or an NFC tag tap. Your choice, per class. Codes change every 8 seconds and expire after 10, so a code texted to an absent friend is dead before it arrives. Every check-in is tied to the signed-in student and timestamped by the server, so nobody can mark anyone else present.

  • Rotating code on the projector. Students type it before it changes
  • QR on screen: scan and you're in, same 8-second rotation
  • NFC tags: a physical tap with bank-card-grade cryptography; every tap is single-use, and a used one is dead forever

Communication

Three channels, each with exactly the right audience

Announcements

One-way, professor to the whole class: “bench checks moved to Thursday” reaches the whole class and stays pinned on the class page.

A thread with your faculty

Each student writes to the teaching staff of their own class, and no one else. There is no student-to-student messaging anywhere.

Mid-lab broadcasts

“Everyone to the wet lab” lands on every student's screen in the room, over whatever they were looking at, until they acknowledge it.

Built for schools

Security your IT department will actually like

SimLabDisplay holds remarkably little (names, school emails, class records, and photos of practice work) and protects it like it holds much more.

Enforced in the database

Who sees what isn't an app feature. It's a rule inside the database itself. A bug in the interface can't leak another class's data.

Revoked means now

Close an account and it loses access on its very next request, not when a login token happens to expire an hour later.

A pilot before you hand over a roster

Demo accounts hold no email address and no password, only a PIN plus a seat number at a dental school or a name at an undergraduate one. Nothing is imported and no system is connected.

Single sign-on ready

SAML 2.0 is built in, so enabling your school is a configuration step, not a rewrite. Students sign in with the account your IT already controls.

Records outlive accounts

A student can delete their account any time. Their name, email, and photos go, while faculty-signed coursework stays, nameless, as the school's record.

No ads, no analytics, no AI

Nothing tracks students, nothing is sold, and no student data is ever sent to any AI service. The app can't even ask for location.
